Process cinema is at the core of my work; the act of an idea leading the work through physical, technological and emotional experimentations.
It is important to learn to voice confusion, embrace the imperfections of meaning around which some things are inexplicable or untranslatable, even if they aren’t expected to be. I find ease in residing in the occasional repetition, the shifting constancy, the wave, steadfast and existing. Process is to me the multiple momentums of seeking the complexity, the multiplicity of selves, the fragments and the resistance allowing a practice to be fostered and nurtured from thin roots to growing branches.

Eva, 2018

“In what language do you grieve? Eva is the fragments of recorded tapes, hidden words, buried stories, and an endless supply of memories, a father’s safekeepings, and souls meeting at the crossroads of their paths. In a poetic experimental documentary, a young woman questions Stella, a mother and cancer survivor, and watches Sonya, her daughter, to understand and communicate with Eva, the mother she lost as a child. In their time together, and in their common stories, maybe grief can ease.”

“Shaping a memoir of my personal return, in the jasmine vines is an assertion that the amalgam that makes my complex identity belongs, gifted by my grandfather and his story and honoured by the generations following his. Forming an imagery of complex memory, archive, story and imagination, this film is a learnt way to place my existence within a narrative. And so, I look for the scents they carry in the jasmine vines.”

“Yaffa is a short experimental film in which space and time become meshed together to form the fragments we create our stories from. In those pieces of images, memories arise and stories retell themselves. It is through our mutual time, words, explorations and spaces that I realized my grandfather gifted me a home.”

“In the pieces I store and carry along my many different roads, my dialects may be signs of bruises but reclaimed they form the skin and voice I live in. Experiences of the where, from where, to where; a narrative amongst others. And as the words finally trickle through the needles, fingers seeping with tints trace the outline of whirling fields where I hang a jasmine branch on suspended necks and in the in-betweens, language soothes, swans mend, and the daily brings calm. We are the comfort of our multiples”
